Canine Parvovirus is an evil viral infection that will eat your pup from the inside out...It attacks the entire digestive system and eats away at the lining of the stomach and intestines so quickly that, literally, within 2 days of symptoms pup is pooping pure blood...The next day pup is pooping rancid blood because now the virus is actually rotting the digestive system as well.. Parvo is extremely contagious..It stays in the soil ready to attack another pup for up to 6 months...You can also pet a dog that has parvo and doesn't yet have any clear symptoms, and then pet your own pup, and within 7 days your pup will be dead without extreme veterinary intervention.. Day one, pup throws up a lot and has diahrea. Day two, pup refuses food and probably water and diahrea turns to blood. Day three, pup has such severe diahrea that he's become dehydrated..He refuses food and water..He's extremely dehydrated and lethargic...Very very sick. If he makes it to day 4 without vet care, he's very lucky to be alive...Without vet care at this point, he will lay there and die a very agonizing death......Parvo is evil. I used to be a breeder and have lost many pups and even in one instance, an entire litter to parvo.. I learned that here in the midwest it's best to start parvo shots at 4 1/2 weeks instead of the standard 6 weeks..Then shots every 10 days instead of the standard 2 weeks...Since implementing this practice, I haven't had one single case of parvo... ps, a little trivia.. In the late 80's, scientists traced the origin of the original parvovirus strain to a MUTATION OF THE FELINE LEUKEMIA VACCINE. I don't know about you, but that scares the BEJEEVIES out of me...Think of the implications, both animal and human.
