thinking about getting a dog?

i recently had my puppy die of parvo. since then i have racked and bleached my yard every other day for a little over a week now. i have also bleached the inside of my home and disinfected or threw away any other items that may have got parvo on it. i really enjoy having the companionship and love of a dog so i was hoping to get a new addition to my family. about how long do i need to wait and what would be a safe age to get? it has been about 2 weeks now since the tragedy.

parvo lives in the enviroment for up to 2 years. dont get a small little puppy without ANY vaccines. i wouldnt trust just bleach. im sure there is still parvo in the yard. if you want a dog, get an older puppy. maybe a dog that has already had his/her 2nd vaccines. if you dont want to do that, make sure you take your dog every 3 weeks till he/she is 12 weeks of age for vaccs. dont take parvo lightly, it's a VERY contagious illness. but if i were you, i wouldnt get a puppy at all. i would get a young adult with full vaccines, and a dog, NOT from a breeder. some breeders dont really vaccinate there dogs, and if they do it's the dumb 7 in 1 vaccine that wont do anything for protection. if you do get a dog from a breeder, make sure he/she is over 8 weeks of age, and ask for a vaccine certificate.take your new pup to the vet asap and they will look over the vaccines to see when/if they were really given. if you have any other questions, just email me o, and remember, a vaccines (just like all vaccines) are not 100%. there is still a risk if you get a puppy (even if vaccinated) it can still get sick. and call a local vet, they can tell you a lot more than what i can type :)
